So if we acknowledgeable the reality of spiritual warfare and take up the challenge to actively engage our enemy, we need to know our about the weapons at our disposal. Many Christians might identify God's Word, the Bible, as one of our primary weapons. Ephesians 6:17 refers to the Scriptures as "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God". But how do we wield this sword?

Let's look at an event in Jesus' life for some guidance. After his baptism, the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness where Satan then attacked him. With each temptation, Jesus used Scripture to parry the assault.

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12-13, KJV)

When we are tempted by the enemy or our own desires to fall short of God's best for us, let's utilize God's word in the battle. Write God's word in your heart and mind so that we, like an experienced fencer, are in a ready position to not only respond to attack but to make advances for the kingdom.
