Passing It On

Father and Son

“When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel.” Judges 2:10

One generation. That is all it took to forget all that God had done. Joshua and his contemporaries had led the way into the Promised Land. They saw God do incredible miracles. They trusted him unconditionally. Joshua was able to declare, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

But something didn’t get transferred. No one was able to pass along a sense of God’s mighty deeds and glorious presence to the next generation. The reasons aren’t specified in Scripture but the conclusion is sobering: the children and grandchildren of such spiritual giants lived without respect to God.

How about our children? What about the next generation? Are they going to be more passionate about their relationship with God than we are or less so?

Let's teach our children well. By what we say and by what we do.
